The CAST Standard System

Standards serve as a guarantee for the safe operation and efficient management for civil aviation. The Civil Aviation Science and Technology (CAST) research institution under the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC),  sets civil aviation standards including airport operation, passenger and baggage service, aviation security, information systems and low-altitude applications.

CAST leads the formulation, revision, promotion and implementation of civil aviation industry standards, technical specifications and operational guidelines. CAST carries out technological research, verification and investigations targeting the pain points of frontline operations while aligning with the standards of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

In the advancement of standardization work, CAST focuses on the full-life-cycle management of civil aviation operations and builds an integrated standard system covering construction specifications, equipment standards, inspection and acceptance, daily operation and emergency response. It takes the lead in formulating a number of key industry standards for core scenarios such as airport baggage handling, information system operation, ground support services, aviation security and emergency disposal, filling multiple gaps in technical specifications in related fields.

The  Airport Baggage Handling Standards systems focus on the full-process of baggage handling, equipment, inspection, acceptance and emergency operation:

  1. MH/T 5106—2013, Specification for Inspection and Acceptance of Terminal Baggage Handling Systems at Civil Airports
  2. MH/T 6123.1—2021, Baggage Handling System – Part 1: Conveyor Belts
  3. MH/T 6123.2—2021, Baggage Handling System – Part 2: Diverters
  4. MH/T 6123.3—2022, Baggage Handling System – Part 3: Baggage Carousels
  5. MH/T 6123.4—2023, Baggage Handling System – Part 4: Automatic Sorters
  6. MH/T 6123.5—2023, Baggage Handling System – Part 5: Independent Carrier Units
  7. Serial under-development standards for the Full-Process Passenger Baggage Tracking System (covering five modules: airport terminal construction specifications, data interface specifications, message specification, RFID access technical specifications and information service specifications)
